I think it was my second day in a kayak when I made the profound realization; 'You mean you can put camping gear in these holes!" I've only carried a backpack twice after that day. I would probably shoulder a Duluth pack, but only if the next lake was larger and more desolate. My six years of guiding taught me four things. One, I can float faster than most people can paddle. Two, paddling backwards is only entertaining for the first three miles. Three, you can survive for a week while eating nothing but Power Bars (Vanilla Crisp preferably). Four, paddling across Lake Superior is never a good idea and should only be tried twice.
Whether it's a surfing a C1, rolling with a Greenland paddle, or messing around in a Rubbermaid tub, I enjoy all types of paddling. I'm looking forward to sharing my knowledge and getting you out more. See you on the water.
