I used this product on a 5 day hike into the primitive sections of the Grand Canyon. The nights were cool, so it was great having that extra insulated barrier from the cool ground. The mattress compresses well and takes up minimal space in a backpack and it's extremely lightweight. The self inflating feature is handy...after a long day of backpacking, I'd just set up the tent, open the nozzle on the thermarest and it inflates itself for the most part. Before I go to bed, I put a breath or two into it and close the nozzle.
I've used the same mattress for several trips over the last few years and have found it to be extremely durable. When I'm home, I leave the mattress fully inflated and tucked behind something to keep it from getting punctured. Leaving it inflated when your not backpacking will actually help it to inflate faster when you're on the trail! Happy camping!
