Born and raised in rural Pennsylvania, graduated from Penn State, wandered a lot, living in about a dozen states and enjoying tons of great experiences along the way.

Lived in a wilderness cabin on the edge of the BWCA outside of Ely, MN, and in a culturally diverse neighborhood along the lake in in Chicago. Lots of interesting jobs including NPS seasonal ranger,  naturalist at a Chicago nature center, portage crew in the BWCA, manager of outdoor and environmental education for the Chicago Park District, and for the past 10 years , as Director of Outdoor Programs at Rutabaga!
