This simple product is a clever solution to a vexing problem.
These are a simple and clever solution to a commom problem.
Many people driving late model passenger cars become frustrated when they try to tie the bow and stern of their canoe or kayak to the car. Newer cars generally don't feature towing hooks or other suitable tie-in points, and in fact often have an air dam or other aerodynamically advantageous (but flimsy) structure under the bumpers. TopTies solve this problem.
The original TopTie is a loop of webbing with a grommet inserted into it. The idea is to mount it to the bolts under your car hood that hold your front fenders on. When you need to carry your boat, you open the hood and reclose it with the loops hanging out—instant tie-down points! They're always there when you need them, and out of the way when you don't.
The Universal TopTie is the next evolution of the concept. In addition to the grommet, it features a stopper. Not only can you mount it to a bolt, you can close it into a door. It can be mounted on the hood, a tailgate, heck, you could even stick one in the cover of your gas tank! Seriously, these open up a whole new world of cartopping possibilities where none existed before.
One thing to note—these are not meant to be used as a primary anchor point. It's for those bow and stern "just in case" lines, it's not a substitute for a proper cartop system.
