This is a three day course that can certify Canoeists who have not previously held instructor certifications. It can also serve as an update for someone who already holds a Level 1 or 2 certification. This course will be hosted by Rutabaga Outdoor Adventures and will be facilitated by L4 Tandem and Solo Canoe Instructor Trainer Jordan Taylor on flatwater at Rutabaga’s retail location in Madison, WI and in Prairie du Sac, WI on the Wisconsin River.

ACA Instructor Certification Workshops are designed for experienced boaters who want to improve at or learn how to share their love for and knowledge of paddlesports. If you have only been paddling for one or two seasons and/or have little or no teaching experience in other areas this course may not be for you. That said, Jordan Taylor is an expert educator accustomed to instructing and training classes including a variety of skill levels, learning styles and ambitions.

ICW’s are designed to:
  • Be a fun experience of paddlesports
  • Introduce established boaters to ACA Instructor Criteria and other ACA policies, procedures, curricula, history and membership benefits.
  • Introduce and/or improve skills in the following areas: boating ability, technical knowledge of paddlesports, group and risk management, rescue, teaching skills and theory, and people skills. You will also learn how to register, report, insure and advertise paddlesport courses through the ACA website.

  • Registering for and completing the course does not guarantee certification.

    Course Prerequisites
    • Meet the ACA’s Essential Eligibility Criteria
    • Be or become an ACA Member.
    • Complete assigned pre course homework.
    • Completion of the appropriate level skills course, assessment course, or equivalent skills.
