The Bittersweet State Natural Area consists of four lakes linked together by three short portages; in short, a small Boundary Waters. If you have been considering a trip to the BWCA but want to test the waters (so to speak), consider this all-day trip, guided by local guide Al Fairfield. There might be a shore meal to see how the camping thing works for you.

Tandem canoes with yokes are the best craft for this trip, but if you want to bring your solo and you have a carrying yoke, by all means that'll work. This trip is not suitable for kayaks,
