Rooted in the hills and valleys of western Wisconsin and inspired by Henry David Thoreau’s experiment at Walden Pond, Deep Springs College, and Waldorf education, Thoreau College offers a fall Semester Program for young adults seeking to craft lives of meaning and purpose, engaging them with the existential questions of our time through thoughtful study of great books and natural phenomena, manual labor, wilderness expeditions, and solos, community self-governance, contemplative inner development, and the arts. Thoreau College also coordinates guided internships with local partners focusing on education, sustainable agriculture, environmental stewardship, and community organizations.
