The outstandingly remarkable cultural, ecological, geological, and recreational values found in this area led to a national park designation in 1978. Many recreational opportunities may be explored on the Missouri River in two districts: a 39-mile district and a 59-mile district. Excellent canoeing, kayaking, and camping experiences may be found throughout the park. MNRR is managed by the National Park Service with Park headquarters located in Yankton, SD. bookmark
