1638 South Blaine Street Moscow, Idaho 83843 www.nrs.com		Founded in 1972, the history of NRS began when an idealistic business professor, Bill Parks, set out to show his colleagues of the time didn't have all the answers. At the time, the education system taught that, "you go into business to make money." But Bill was reluctant and raised the question, "could a business not offer more, could it not have a soul?" "Could we not create a workplace that fostered a culture of positivity and family amongst employees?" "Could we not give back to the communities and organizations that make our sport possible?" "Could we not take care of vendors and customers in the same caring way we look after each other on the river?" So, in some ways NRS was started out of spite, to prove his strong feelings on how to best run a business. Bill was drawn to rivers, to the beautiful places they carried him. He was passionate about the challenge of running rapids, and the people and experiences that made every trip a memory to cherish. So, he had no trouble deciding what kind of startup to launch. In 2014, (42 years later,) to see his ideology come full circle, Bill sold the company back to the employees. Making NRS the first (and still one of the few) employee-owned companies in the outdoor sports industry. We lost Bill, after a long and fulfilled life, in February of 2023.
