  Mike Hammond

calusablueway.com

Mike Hammond is a lifelong paddler who grew up taking trips with his family to the Boundary Waters, Adirondacks, Canada, Idaho, Costa Rica, and throughout the Eastern United States. He took his love of paddling and nature to Southwest Florida where he now manages the 190 mile Great Calusa Blueway Paddling Trail. Mike has organized multiple paddle sports events in Southwest Florida; become the Region F director of the Florida Paddling Trails Association; become an ACA Level 1 SUP and Kayak instructor; a Special Olympics SUP coach; trained Lee County Parks & Recreation staff in paddling safety; and helped outfitters, businesses, and other agencies organize their own paddling events. While Mike loves all aspects of his "job," he says the best part is just getting out on the water and sharing what he considers a paddling paradise with others.

Presentations

Florida's Great Calusa Blueway: 190 Miles of Paddling Paradise
Killarney - Clarion Hotel Fri 4:30pm-5:15pm
Caribou - upstairs Sun 11:30am-12:15pm

Inspired by the indigenous Calusa, the Great Calusa Blueway is a 190-mile paddling trail located in Southwest Florida. Paddlers enjoy exploring backbay estuaries of the Beaches of Fort Myers & Sanibel, dotted with subtropical islands, mangrove tunnels and jungle-like creeks. Excellent wildlife viewing and fishing, as well as historic points of interest abound along the trail. Mike is Lee County's Blueway Coordinator, and will share why the Calusa Blueway is perfect for recreational day-trippers as well as serious thru-paddlers.
