  Vic Foerster

www.vicfoerster.com

Vic Foerster has been visiting Isle Royale National Park for over 37 years, spending an entire month paddling its waters over his 50th birthday. More than a milestone celebration, that month was a time of spiritual rejuvenation, a time to immerse himself into a Great Lakes wilderness. Vic is a Certified Arborist, and nationally recognized tree care consultant, as well as an award-winning author for his two Isle Royale books, "Naked in the Stream, Isle Royale Stories" and "Hidden in the Trees, an Isle Royale Sojourn." The park rangers say of Naked in the Stream, "If you want to know what it feels like to live on Isle Royale, then Vic's book is the one to read."

Vic was selected as the 2019 recipient of the Professional Award by the Arboricultural Society of Michigan for life-long contributions to the urban forestry profession and the former chairperson to the Michigan Urban Forestry Advisory Council. His writings may best describe island life as well as how best to properly care for trees. But his best move he says, "Was to marry one of the smartest, most beautiful women in the world and become the proud father of two sons and four grandchildren."

 An Isle Royale Sojourn
Caribou - upstairs Fri 7:30pm-8:15pm

Remote, insulated from man's influence by the frigid waters of Lake Superior, and protected by the National Park Service, Isle Royale doubles as a wilderness escape for outdoor enthusiasts and as one of the foremost outdoor laboratories for wildlife studies. As such, in 1984, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization designated Isle Royale a world biosphere reserve. Award winning author and arborist, Vic Foerster, will share his sabbatical spent paddling its pristine waters. From the shores of this wilderness archipelago, Vic recounts his search for a true Great Lakes wilderness, a habitat he seldom sees as an urban forester. Experience a landscape allowed to freely evolve. Hear why he thinks that moves us so deeply.
