  Mark & Erin Godonis

MountainRiverInn.com

Mark and Erin Godonis met on a live-aboard charter scuba dive boat in the Bahamas in 1983. Over their 35 years together, they, with their kids, enjoyed many adventures over the years, including Skiing in Wisconsin, Michigan's upper peninsula, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and California, Kayaking/powerboating/fishing/scuba diving on Lakes Superior/Michigan, as well as many trips kayaking and canoeing on a variety of lakes and rivers in Wisconsin and Michigan. After 25 years of marriage, kids, Mark running a metal fabrication business and Erin, an IT professional with a fortune 100 pharmaceutical company, found themselves empty nesters when their two kids went off to college. They had honeymooned along the coast of Maine, and stayed at many Bed and Breakfast establishments, and thought at the time, "Hey, this might be fun". In 2012, they were working on their "5-year plan" and decided to look around for a Bed and Breakfast or campground to operate while facilitating a move to the West. They looked in Colorado, Utah, and Nevada, and in 2013, bought a small Bed and Breakfast in the small town of Buena Vista, Colorado, in central Colorado. Within 4 months, they were the number one rated BnB in the area and remain so today, even though they have changed the business model to a vacation rental at the end of 2018. While operating the BnB, Erin has been volunteering with the local Chamber of Commerce, as well as an Equine Therapy program. Mark has taught a college welding program and volunteers with Chaffee County Search and Rescue North. While an instructor at Colorado Mountain College, Mark was able to enroll in a variety of outdoor classes including River Kayaking, Rock Climbing 1 and 2, and River Raft guiding. They now spend summers traveling from the Mid-West to Alaska, camping all over Colorado, kayaking the Arkansas River and many Alpine Lakes close to home. Winters are spent snow shoeing and skiing at Monarch Mountain, located about 10 minutes from their home.

Headwaters of the Arkansas River in Central Colorado
Loon - upstairs Sat 4:30pm-5:15pm

Mark and Erin will outline information for your visit to the whitewater mecca that is the Arkansas River headwaters! This unique valley allows you to ski knee-deep powder in the morning and navigate whitewater play holes in the afternoon. Just 10 miles east of the Continental Divide, the Arkansas drops 4600 feet in 120 miles through deep canyons and a National Monument! They will be discussing everything from Class II-V stretches of river to glass-smooth alpine lakes. Topics include lodging (from 4-star hotels to free, dispersed camping), equipment, high altitude sickness, and other safety precautions.
