  John Van Barriger

theoutdoorkind.org

John Van Barriger is an award-winning writer/photographer and correspondent for Paddling Adventures Radio. A lifelong outdoors enthusiast, the Wisconsin resident considers himself outrageously lucky to have paddled, hiked, camped, backpacked, biked, motorcycled or gone scuba diving on five continents. He is president of The Outdoor Kind, LLC, a company founded specifically to conduct outdoors safety-education outreach and raise funds for rural and wilderness first responders. He organized the 2018 Yukon Journey Charitable Canoe and Kayak Expedition, and will return to the historic river with a focus on student education in summer 2020.

Presentations

A Photograpy Primer: Lions, Great Whites & Bears, Oh My!

Get ready for stunning visuals and humorous stories as Paddling Adventures Radio's John Van Barriger presents his top 10 tips for taking better outdoor and wildlife photographs. John will share photos and (tall) tales from a lifetime of adventuring outdoors. He'll also discuss technology, the importance of shooting ethically in the natural world, and the critically important topic of how to avoid being eaten by your photographic subjects!

 Sweet and Spicy Texas Paddling

The Lone Star State may be better known for its chili than waterways, but writer-photographer John Van Barriger found the perfect ingredients for a spring paddling excursion. In this presentation, he'll serve up photos and Texas-sized stories of urban paddling, ranch-country floatin', and video of a spicy whitewater run between the trees of a flooded forest. Add in a dash of Texas hospitality, venomous creepy-crawlies, and the brutal Texas Water Safari, and you have all the fixin's of a tasty presentation! Jalapenos not included.
