Preserving a Lost Way of Life Through the Restoration of the Rock of Ages Lighthouse in Isle Royale National Park
Pre-recorded - Sat 1:00pm-2:00pm

Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior is a popular paddling destination, but have you heard about the amazing maritime history of the 4 lighthouses that fall within the park's boundaries? In our ever-changing, fast-paced world, the solitude, beauty, and strength captured in a lighthouse is something to be treasured. In this presentation, David and Heather Gerth will transport you back in time to consider the lost way of life of the keepers of the Rock of Ages Lighthouse, a 10-story offshore lighthouse 4 miles from the southwest corner of Isle Royale. Even today, this magnificent structure with its compelling history has crept into the lives of many volunteers, capturing their imaginations, and spurring them to action to preserve this lighthouse and its history. Learn about the volunteers of the Rock of Ages Lighthouse Preservation Society who are working to restore the Rock of Ages Lighthouse and preserve its history so that all can continue to experience a lost way of life.
