Both are Wilderness First Aid certified (WFR) and State of Utah River Guides. Between them they have logged over 100 wilderness trips. Over 35 of those trips have been done with their own kids, family or high school groups
Are you looking to plan a wilderness adventure with your own kids or youth group that will leave them begging for more? This presentation will provide specific and practical suggestions for parents, grandparents, and leaders of student groups preparing to take kids of all ages on backcountry trips. Paddling trips through Ontario Parks (Killarney, Quetico, and Lake Superior) and Canyonlands National Park (Green and Colorado Rivers), as well as backpacking trips through the Wind River Range, WY will be featured examples of youth-friendly trips. Emphasis will be placed on planning a kid focused trip that is comprised of age appropriate entertainment, teachable moments and enjoyable camping experiences. Additionally, pre-trip planning regarding locations/routes, safety, equipment/gear selection, and food/cooking will be discussed. Specific focus will be placed on trip experiences that include surprises for kids of all ages, structured learning situations, family/group bonding, and opportunities for physical/mental growth.
