Wayne Horodowich is an experienced paddler, educator, adventurer and author. He directed the Adventure Programs at the University of California at Santa Barbara for twenty-five years where he trained over 1,000 outdoor leaders. Drawing from his 30 years of teaching kayaking, Wayne has produced the popular USK "In Depth" Instructional video series specifically for sea kayaking. He is very active in teaching instructor development clinics around North America and was a former captain of the U.S. Surf Kayak Team. He is the founder of the University of Sea Kayaking, an organization for the promotion of sea kayaking education, which hosts an incredible web site (www.useakayak.org) providing an educational resource to sea kayakers. He has recently written another book entitled "Practicing Good Judgment," which can be found on his website.

Trying to choose a kayak can be overwhelming with the seemingly endless variety of boats available in the marketplace. Your goal is to find the boat that fits your needs and your budget. If you want a step-by-step approach to finding the kayak that works best for you, then join Wayne for a dynamic and detailed discussion. He will draw upon his 32 years of teaching kayaking and fitting paddlers into kayaks so they can have an enjoyable experience.
"It seemed like a good idea at the time" is one of Wayne's favorite sayings because he has used it more than he would like to admit. Said in another way, "Good judgment is learned through experience and experience is gained from bad judgment." You can re-invent the wheel, or come to this presentation and choose to learn some lessons from others who have made good and bad choices. Practicing good judgment is a skill that can be developed if you have the right tools.
Paddling a kayak is more than just taking strokes with your paddle. Kayaking is a true marriage of your boat, body, and blade. All three must be working together during all aspects of kayaking to get the most out of your equipment. In this presentation, Wayne will discuss body position and movements, boat positions and movements, and how to properly use and manipulate your paddle to get the results you want when kayaking.
