||Raised in Oakland, California, Sam (she/her) recently moved to Minnesota to be closer to the woods and the water. In 2021, she and her father took 100 days to paddle the length of the Mighty Mississippi in a canoe. She is also a trip member of 6 North of 60, a paddling expedition including 6 womxn who canoed to the Arctic Ocean in 2017; they are also past Canoecopia presenters.
Sam brings with her over ten years of experience working at the intersection of outdoor education and youth programming. 'A River Eulogy' is a 2021 paddling expedition that follows a father and daughter who, although almost diametrically opposed in terms of identity, politics, and worldviews, end up in a canoe together on the Mississippi River for 103 days.
In the midst of an era defined by division and polarization, these two find a common quest to commemorate the victims of Covid-19 as they paddle through America's Heartland and into its Deep South, trying to find peace in each other and their country along the way.
