From 40 foot waterfalls, class V creeks, lively Piedmont rivers, slow coastal swamps to the big Sea herself, from Alaska to the Tropics, there is little in the world of kayaking that Pete Beck has not done. His first big trip came in the form of a week long father/son Algonquin Canoe trip as a 12 year old. That was all it took to foster a lifetime love of paddlesports. Pete advanced quickly in the world of whitewater kayaking. But even with all the adventure and adrenaline, there was something missing. Launching out on a solo 241 mile source to sea on his local river in North Carolina, Pete found that certain something. He began trekking entire rivers rather than small sections. He started taking friends along on these adventures - some with no experience in kayaks. On the first such adventure, Pete and the boys were soaking wet and muddy. They had paddled in the rain to a riverside restaurant and were eating burgers. Pete looked around and commented that they looked like river gypsies. Long time friend and first time paddler Brian Hubbard replied "Yes, but we are eating like kings." It was at that moment that the group River Kings was formed. Pete soon started the River Kings Youtube channel to document and preserve these memories with his friends. While his primary objective has not changed, the channel has grown into a venue that brings the viewer along on these adventures as well as passes on as much knowledge and experience as possible. Now with thousands of nights in the outdoors, thousands of miles of river traveled and a crew of fine friends by his side, Pete and the River Kings are just getting started. They are committed to the never ending quest to enjoy nature in its finest setting - with friends and on the river! |
