Donna Smith has been fly fishing for 30 years. She changed careers from horticulturist at the Morton Arboretum outside of Chicago to fly fishing professional with The Orvis Company. She worked at Orvis as a customer service fishing specialist and a retail fishing manager. She is now co-owner and instructor at PJ's Guide Service with her husband, PJ. Donna's passion is introducing newcomers to the sport. She's a patient instructor who loves to see people embrace the sport of fly fishing and improve their skills.
< br /> Learning to cast a fly rod can be intimidating, so Donna makes that process easy and fun! She is the first woman to be a Fly Fishers International Certified Casting Instructor in IL & WI. She's taught fly fishing programs for a number of organizations including Becoming an Outdoors Woman, Fly Fishers International, Flygirls of Michigan, The Orvis Company, Trout Unlimited, WI Women's Fly Fishing Clinics and PJ's Guide Service.

PJ Smith was introduced to fly fishing and the trout waters of the Wisconsin Driftless area 30 years ago. He hasn’t picked up his conventional gear since! What started as a hobby turned into a fulltime career and business, PJ’s Guide Service. He has been an Orvis Endorsed Fly Fishing Guide for 5 years. PJ has put thousands of miles on his truck to explore the streams & rivers of Wisconsin. His passion for the sport was his motivation to improve his skills in order to provide clients with an exceptional experience. Fly Fishing 101 - A Beginner’s Guide to Fly Fishing

Getting started in the sport of fly fishing can be intimidating, but it doesn't have to be. Fly fishing differs from conventional fishing in many ways, creating a new challenge for any angler. With skill and practice you can wade into the water or fish from a canoe or kayak. In this session Donna will talk about five core components of fly fishing: Equipment, Knots, Casting, Fly Selection and Resources. Let her introduce you to a simple, fun and accessible sport! Waters throughout Wisconsin are teeming with fish of all species. A driftless stream trout sits in wait to sip your dry fly off the surface of the water. Be ready for the strike of a river smallmouth bass as it hits a streamer below the surface. Come get a glimpse into the fascinating world of fly fishing and how you can be a part of it too.
