Marcos arrived to kayaking accidentally on his 50th birthday. Starting with zero experience he launched himself into the Des Plaines River (IL) on a sturdy recreational kayak, paddling many mornings and falling in love with the opportunities of escape it gave him. Thinking he was God's gift to kayaking, Marcos soon adventured out into the open waters of Lake Michigan to immediately be humbled into the risks and dangers of not really knowing what he was doing. Ever since that awakening in the Lake, Marcos has joined courses, geared up, joined symposiums, paddled in several places around the world, has got injured, certified as a Rolling Instructor and ACA Level 3 Coastal Kayak Instructor, taught paddling privately and in a Club as a volunteer, to name a few events within the last five years.
Having been amazed by long distance paddlers crossing the seas, Marcos started wondering with some friends in Portugal: "What if we managed to kayak all the way from Spain to Maine?" The only rule, it needs to be a trip that every kayaker can do with a bit of experience. And after 1 year the first 2 trips are built, with 2 more trips being developed to make this dream possible for most kayakers.
Marcos will run through the big plan, and share stories from the first 2 trips (Spain to the Atlantic along the Douro River, and the Madeira Islands).
