Recreational Kayak Basics

skill level:   beginner
ages:   adult
price:   $60.00

Recreational kayaks are easy to paddle, hard to tip, and fit any body shape or type. They're built so anyone can experience kayaking. Join us and discover why paddling these kayaks is so popular and so much fun!

You'll learn about proper boat fit, safe launching and landing, equipment and clothing, basic strokes, safety, and what to do if you tip over. After this class, you're all set to enjoy a peaceful, low-impact activity that you can share with others.

While it varies slightly from class to class, expect to spend the first half of class on land getting comfortable with your gear, practicing strokes, and learning some basic safety procedures, and the second half of class in your boat!

Class sizes are kept small (no more than 5 students to each instructor) so expect plenty of individual feedback and time to ask questions.

Note: In case wind or water quality do not cooperate, we will use alternative backup locations. For courses at Esther Beach, backup locations are Olbrich Park or Rutabaga Paddlesports. For courses at Olbrich Park, backup locations are are Esther Beach or Rutabaga Paddlesports
